This
creation is a continuation of my previous pastel painting “Pairing Red With Green”.
My Japanese teacher, Mori Sen Sei, is an Osaka citizen. He has an adorable big
cat and is very naughty. However, you can see its eyes are full of fear in the
painting which is very interesting.

“Big
birds fly up lightly and dragons move in the water gracefully” Those two lines
of wordings are from an old Chinese poem named “Goddess Luo.” The words are
written to extol the beauty of Goddess Luo. At this moment, I would like to
cite the words to describe these white feather fairies which are flying so
gracefully.

philosophy of this creation
Recently,
I am obsessed with the study of white egret as I felt it looks elegant from any
perspectives. Egrets can be seen anywhere near fish farms or beside paddy
fields in Southern Taiwan. However, it is not easy to get a closer look. I have
tried a few attempts, however, still unable to catch the ideal shot. My dream
finally came true with a full-length shot by taking the photo on a bicycle in
distance. While painting, I was delighted to see the egrets appeared vividly in
the drawing.

In
Santorini, white buildings were constructed on the summit. To reach the top of
the mountain, you can ride a donkey, walk or take the cable. I chose to ride a
donkey. My journal of the donkey rides was fresh but accompanied with guilt as
I rode on the winding mountain road.

Santorini
is a Greek island, you are able to see the trace of cats everywhere on the
island. Similar to those islands neighboring Taiwan, the distinctive features
are sizzling hot, isle, fishes and cats. Mandala thinking and beautiful
associated cognition always come into my mind when I think of Santorini.

Several peach trees are in blossom outside
the bamboo forest, when spring has warmed the stream, ducks are the first to
know. This is the poem of Su Shi in the Song Dynasty.
This is what I have seen in Yosemite National
Park in the United States. Ducklings were swimming so freely and enjoyably in
front of us, their looks were so adorable.

is the scene in Golden pavilion in Japan. On one of the sunny days in February,
my first time seeing the female mandarin duck carrying hatchlings to water and
field in order to teach them some skills. I also saw a few ducklings dozed off
during the excursion.

“Red Crab
General” is to depict a type of virgin female mud crab which can only be found
in sub-tropical region. Putting together the crab and the crystal plate, I wished
to express the texture difference between two. Consequently, I noticed the
unusual light shadow of the crystal plate.

In fact,
I didn’t spend too much time painting this piece “Pairing Red With Green”. I
just picked up an apron, a beer and a crab without intention and started to
make the combinations. I didn’t expect it will turn out to be successful.
Without the pressure of having to complete the work, I ended up accomplish a
decent artwork.

The
philosophy of this creation
Rainbow
colored lobster is a wild lobster found in coastal water near Taiwan. The
beautiful and spiny head of the lobster is the most difficult part to express. Pastel
chalk is soft and the shape is quite thick. I was not optimistic about this
painting originally. However, I was amazed with the end result and realized
that pastel can be so malleable. This result gave me enormous confidence in
confirming that pastel paintings are of great research value.

I started
learning piano when I was young. I also like to include piano in my painting.
The painting style of Picasso varied in his whole life. He was never complacent
with any successful painting styles. He sought for innovation and changes. Such
spirit is worth learning and followed. Pastel painters have high successful rate.
What about when one try to paint natural landscapes or flowers? Can it be a bit
more freehand as well as realistic painting?

painting was drawn to depict peonies in early spring. It was at Sun Link Sea,
this was the first time I saw peonies and all other flowers were in bloom. By
looking at the scene, I suddenly had an idea of painting peony flowers. The
pinky color presented in the picture is full of spring feeling.

I once created a piece named RAINBOW
COLORED LOBSTER CONCERTO in 2009. At that time, I just simply wanted to prove
the realism of pastel. How realistic can it be? Not until I purchased a
painting of kitten by Aurelio Rodriquez Lopez in 2017, my thoughts have changed
dramatically. After several studies, I’ve created a series of lobster
creations. This piece is the first of the series, depicting the lifelike
lobsters.
